San Francisco, California
San Francisco is the fourth most populous in the state of California. San Francisco itself is part of the larger San Francisco Bay Area. A Spanish exploration party in arrived on San Francisco on November 2, 1769 and seven years later, the fort was established. San Francisco received its independence from Spain in 1821. The Gold Rush brought a whole new crowd of prospectors and families to the area, boosting San Francisco’s population. One of the most major catastrophes in San Francisco’s history occurred on April 8, 1906. On that day, a major earthquake struck the area, collapsing buildings and rupturing gas lines, which caused fires that spread across the city. Over 75% of the city was ruined, including most of the downtown area.
In San Francisco, there are many beaches and parks that run along the shore line. The biggest park is the Golden Gate Park, which is home to the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden, and the Stryning Arboretum. The oldest park, Buena Vista Park, was established in 1867.San Francisco has a War Memorial and Performing Arts Center. There is also the War Memorial Opera House, The San Francisco Opera and Ballet.
